Dubai: More than Dh5.5 million has been allocated even as entries have started filling up in various sporting disciplines to be held at the Fifth Nad Al Sheba (NAS) Ramadan Sports Tournament at the NAS Sports Complex from the end of May.
The three-week long tournament is an annual feature during the month of Ramadan with Dubai Sports Council (DSC) as organisers in league with associated sports associations in the UAE.
The event is held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council.
Like last season, the tournament will feature competitions in futsal, volleyball, padel, wheelchair basketball, fencing, road runs, road cycling and a NAS Challenge, among the latest events to be added this year.
Entries for the padel competition closed last week and organisers are thrilled with the response to the tournament that will commence on May 28 and conclude with the final on June 15.
There will be two road runs over 5km and 10km and will be held on June 3, while the wheelchair basketball will be conducted from June 4 to 15. The deadline for receiving entries for both competitions has been set till May 18.
The NAS Challenge competition will be held on two days — June 1 and 8 with registration for the same open until May 30.
The 10km road run will have several categories including an international category for men and women, UAE-based professionals and an open category for men and women, while the 5km run will have an open category for men and women.
The 75km road cycling to be held on June 10 and 11 will be conducted in four categories, namely an open category for men and women, UAE amateurs and a special category for the disabled athletes.
The Fencing competition will be held from May 30 till June 2 in five separate categories. The final date of registration is May 18.
